Continuing from my previous posting, now I’d like to post about ‘Indo’ kids (Indo usually perceived as someone who is half Caucasian and half Indonesian).

Many Indonesians still have fascination with Caucasians, this includes fascination with their children. If someone happens to be a half Caucasian half Indonesian (Indo), he or she would be considered lucky. This is because Indonesians perceive their appearance as “better” (usually taller, propotionally shaped figure, fair skin, and perhaps sexy). We Indonesians often say this as the offspring improvement program.

One of the benefits of being an Indo is that they have a better chance to become a celebrity. If you happen to have kids like that, you kids are likely to have that competitive advantage in them.

The easiest way to assess whether they have that advantage is to look at your surrounding. If you sense that somehow people are drawn to your kids, then you have it. It is a no brainer assessment. You can easily do it.

Ok then, why is it Indo have an easier access to become a celebrity? Well, simply because of their appearance. Personality does matter, but it comes second. The appearance is the attention grabber, while personality helps to enforce that.

Since Caucasian-related-appearance is such an attraction for many Indonesians, Indo are perfect to become the medium to promote and to sell stuff. Soap opera producers see them as magnets, while photographers and fashion industry consider them as image enhancers.

So, if your children are Indo and you want your kids to be famous, you can perhaps do these:

  • Learn about celebrity lives. Have a good foundation on how the industry works.
  • Take your children to exercise routinely. It would improve their chance to become lead actor/actress.
  • Occasionally go for castings. Let your kids be known by the Industry.
  • Teach your kids how to act. No need to be good at it. Just enough to pass the casting test.
  • Dress your kids accordingly. No need to be expensive, just enough to make them look ’shiny’.
  • Teach your kids to talk to common Indonesians. This would impress them and they can become strong supporters of your kids.
  • Use your connections.
  • If you owned a business, use your kids as models, self promotion won’t hurt.
  • Teach your kids English. They better be good at it. Indonesians expects Indo can speak English better than themselves. Failing to do so would result them in becoming a laughing stock like our Miss World Contestant.
  • Don’t forget to educate your kids so they’re also good academically. Should their celebrity status diminishes, they still can work normally.
  • Educate your kids about the risks of becoming a celebrity.

In Indonesia, to have a Caucasian for a father or a husband would usually considered as having financial security. Not anymore, especially when your dad/husband decides to stay in Indonesia for life. When this happens you’re just like any other struggling Indonesians.

So, while your father is still working, make most of what you have. If you think becoming a celebrity is a good thing, start working to achieve it now. Don’t be afraid to fail, because even if you do, you still have your working parent(s) to cover you.

I don’t personally encourage Indo kids to become a celebrity though. In many occasions, the temptation to neglect education, family, values, and chasity is too great that they often fail to uphold it. But then again, it’s about personal choices.
