Can Indonesia Keep Its Green Promise?

Today I noticed that there are many news coverage on planting trees, and most of them are sponsored by the government. Either by the ministry of something or by the provincial government of something.
I personally support such activities. I think it is good for the environment and also it is a good publicity for those who were involved.
At first I didn’t really notice it, but then I realized that these activities are part of the International Conference on Climate Change in Bali. I think I can safely say that the tree planting is basically the initative from the government to show the world that Indonesia too, is taking steps to stop global warming.
Ok, that’s on the positive side.
Now on the not-so-sure side. Indonesia is infamous for its lack-of-commitment attitude toward the environment. I can’t help to suspect that the tree planting is just a ceremonial and temporary thing. I even wonder whether those trees can receive proper care and protection so they can grow to their full heights.
I truly hope my suspicion is wrong.
